Roasted Japanese green tea. Hojicha is made by roasting green tea leaves over high heat, transforming their grassy freshness into warm, toasty notes of caramel and roasted nuts — with a beautiful reddish-brown cup to match.
Gentle and famously easy-drinking, hojicha is one of the mildest teas in the Japanese repertoire and a beloved evening drink in Japan. Smooth, soothing and completely without bitterness.
Brew one heaping teaspoon per cup with water around 90°C for 30 seconds to 1 minute — hojicha likes it hotter and quicker than other greens. Lovely plain, and it makes a wonderful hojicha latte with steamed milk.
