Green and Black Tea
In Green and Black Tea polyphenols give tea its tart flavour. Cathechin, Epicatechin, are some of the phenols found in tea.
Scientists are especially excited about the phenols cancer fighting properties. They potentially defeat cancer by at least three mechanisms.
First, they can shut off the formation of carcinogens, secondly they turn up the body natural detoxification defenses, and finally they suppress cancer promotion. Also, tea catechins contained within phenols are effective in suppressing the excessive accumulation of body and liver fat. Green tea seems to contain greater concentrations of catechins than does black tea.
Tea is also known to contain other essential vitamins and minerals, for example green tea contains 20 times the amount of vitamin C than does the same amount of orange juice.
Black tea now is thought to be a good defense against heart disease. A recent Canadian medical association newsletter reported studies that show 2 cups of black tea a day could reduce the chance of heart disease by 44%.
Rooibos is produced by fermenting the green needle like leaves of Aspalathus Linearis, a wild shrub native to South Africa. It is a full flavored tea with low levels of tannin and no calories, oxalic acid or caffeine. Rooibos tea contains many nutrients including a full spectrum of minerals, vitamin C and high levels of antioxidants. The nourishing properties of Rooibos enable it to regulate nervous system imbalances such as headaches, irritability, insomnia, hypertension and depression. The anti-spasmodic properties of Rooibos enable it to aid in digestive imbalances like nausea, cramps, heartburn and constipation. As well, Rooibos is reputed to strengthen the body of low immunity and allergies like hay fever, asthma and eczema.
